Project concept
Initial situation
Education is crucial for successful integration. However, in many European countries, some migrant groups, especially Roma children, struggle to reach compulsory school levels and drop out of the education system early, leading to a higher risk of social exclusion. Lack of integration causes long-term adverse effects on the social development and economic growth of the host country.
Target groups and their benefits
The RoMigSc project is aimed at headmasters and teachers, Roma learning facilitators and other volunteers working with migrant pupils and their parents. More broadly, it is aimed at decision-makers and representatives of municipalities, voluntary organisations and researchers in the region who see multicultural diversity as an opportunity to make schools more inclusive, creative and open.
Project goal
The RoMigSc project aims to support well-trained teachers in the inclusion of Roma and migrant children in their learning environment. It aims to support the engagement of youth in voluntary work (e.g. homework supervision, language support) and a formal recognition of their work. To this end, social groups and political decision-makers should be persuaded to support the RoMigSc project.
Role of ISOB
ISOB coordinates the initial analysis, leads the internal quality assurance, coordinates the data collection and analysis of user feedback. ISOB also supports in dissemination and participates in the development of the learning and training materials.
Products and publications
- Conduct an initial study in the form of a literature review and identify good practices on the inclusion of Roma and migrant children
- Develop a training programme for interested individuals who wish to increase their knowledge of social responsibility and volunteering and learn strategies for working in a multicultural environment, especially with a focus on Roma and migrants
- Development of a publicly accessible training programme with interactive materials (e.g. videos, quizzes, interviews) for teachers to strengthen intercultural competences with the help of a learning management system
