As part of the intercultural weeks in the city of Regensburg (September 12 to October 9, 2022), the civil initiative Asylum Regensburg (BI Asyl) organised an interactive information and discussion event about the new right of residence act "Chancen-Aufenthaltsrecht" (ChaR) in Germany. The ChAR law aims at improving the right to stay and was agreed upon by the current coalition. In order to meet these expectations, however, there is a clear need for improvement. Due to many exclusion criteria and deficiencies in the draft, only a small portion of eligible refugees would receive a residence permit. The event was attended by refugees as well as by those who provided the impetus. Markus Merkl, head of human resources at Max Frank Group GmbH & Co. KG, was invited. The members of the Bundestag of the current coalition answered some questions about the implementation of the ChAR law to the participants of the event. Represented were Dr. Carolin Wagner (SPD, Regensburg), Stefan Schmidt (Bündnis 90/Grüne, Regensburg) and Muhanad Al-Halak (FDP, Grafenau). ISOB was interested in the event and was represented by the colleagues Alexander Krauss and Stephanie Reiner as participants.
